[SOS] Secretary of State Connie Lawson’s statement on the sentencing of Mike Marshall from Jennings County for vote fraud through the absentee ballot process
Start Date: 5/1/2013 All Day
End Date: 5/1/2013
Entry Description

Secretary of State Connie Lawson’s statement on the sentencing of Mike Marshall from Jennings County for vote fraud through the absentee ballot process

INDIANAPOLIS (May 1, 2013) — “Today’s sentencing of Mike Marshall for vote fraud sends the message that Indiana takes seriously election security, and underscores the need to continue to fight for integrity in Indiana’s election administration,” said Secretary of State Connie Lawson.  “For years, Mike Marshall was credited with turning out large numbers of absentee ballots to rig elections and his conviction should bring up questions from the voters he defrauded by tampering with the electoral process.

“Absentee ballots are critical to our election process, because many Hoosiers would be disfranchised from voting without the ability to cast an absentee ballot. Those confined to their homes or nursing homes, those traveling away from home on Election Day and our military men and women rely on absentee ballots to ensure their vote is counted. We must protect this process so all Hoosiers have a chance to have their voices heard on Election Day.”

“It is my hope Mr. Marshall’s conviction will restore confidence in the voting process in Jennings County. We must protect the precious right to vote by ensuring the process is secure.  I applaud Judge Jonathan Webster’s decision and Dearborn County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard and all those who worked to bring Mr. Marshall to justice.”
