Entry Description

STATEHOUSE (April 24, 2013) — A resolution co-authored by State Sen. Jim Banks (R-Columbia City) to study wind farms in Indiana passed the Senate today by a vote of 46-0.

Senate Resolution 62 urges the creation of a legislative study committee to examine the feasibility and expected effects of constructing wind farms, including the economic, environmental and fiscal impact these operations could have on Indiana.

According to the Indiana Office of Energy Development, the state currently has 930 wind turbines, which produce 3 percent of the state’s energy supply.

“There are strong opinions for and against establishing more wind farms in Indiana,” Banks said. “I believe this issue requires more consideration before we implement any policies or regulations. I plan to be involved in further discussion on this topic and look forward to seeing the committee’s findings.”
