Entry Description

STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2013) – State Sen. Sue Glick’s (R-LaGrange) legislation to examine accountability for public officeholders passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 92-0. Senate Bill 226 now returns to the Senate for final legislative review.

SB 226 creates an interim study committee on the topic of suspending state and local elected officials who are charged with a felony. The committee would review the issue and create a final report for the legislative council that includes any recommended legislation on the topic.

“Our officeholders are trusted with serving our communities and acting as their voice,” Glick said. “Because of that, we must ensure these individuals are both principled and accountable. It’s my hope this study committee will create a process that accomplishes this goal.”

Rep. Kathy Heuer (R-Columbia City) is the House sponsor.
