Entry Description

Operation Indy Commute – I-69
Overnight Lane Restriction,
Traffic Shift Saturday

FISHERS, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors plan to temporarily restrict one lane of southbound Interstate 69 between 116th Street and I-465 during overnight hours tonight  and Friday night. Contractors also plan alternating lane restrictions Saturday night to slightly shift traffic lanes.

Rieth-Riley Construction, the state’s contractor for the $11 million added travel lanes project, plans to remove rumble strips ground into the right shoulder of southbound I-69 and replace the pavement with a smooth surface. This work will prepare the shoulder for a traffic shift scheduled for Saturday night that will move all southbound lanes slightly to the right.

In order to complete the shoulder milling and paving, contractors plan to restrict the right lane of southbound I-69 between 116th Street and I-465 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5. Once this work is complete, contractors plan to begin Saturday night at 10 p.m. removing existing lane markings and placing temporary markings to shift all lanes two feet to the right. This additional two feet will allow space for contractors to restrict one lane and maintain two open lanes during overnight hours while the additional travel lane is constructed along the southbound median.

Rieth-Riley also plans to begin work Thursday night on the 116th Street bridge to remove concrete center median and replace sidewalk. Traffic on 116th Street will be restricted to a single lane in each direction during overnight hours for approximately one month. The nightly restriction will begin no earlier than 10 p.m. and work will end by 5 a.m. each day. All exit ramps will remain open. Work will be postponed in the event of inclement weather.

All work and restrictions for the added travel lanes project are being coordinated with the ongoing interchange improvement project. Both projects are expected to be complete by the end of the year.
