Start Date: 4/28/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 4/28/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description
Martin County: Saturday at approximately 1:35 p.m. the Martin County Dispatch Center received a call of a possible personal injury traffic accident on SR 550 at Abel Hill Road involving a silver Ford Focus. The Martin County Dispatch also received information that a vehicle matching this description had damaged the concrete wall along the driveway of 8618 Progress School Road and left the scene. Trooper Jarrod Lents and Martin County Deputy Keith Keller arrived at SR 550 and Abel Hill Road and located the silver Ford Focus off the roadway, down an embankment and up against a utility pole. The driver John P. Kendall, 47, Loogootee was still in the vehicle and was being checked for injuries by the fire department. As trooper Lents got to the silver Focus he noticed several alcohol containers in the vehicle. Trooper Lents also observed several other indicators that led him to believe that Kendall could possibly be intoxicated.

After being looked at by the fire department for injuries Trooper Lents and Deputy Keller asked Kendall to get out of the vehicle but he refused and closed and locked his doors. Kendall continued to not respond to the officer’s commands to exit the vehicle so Trooper Lents and Deputy Keller had to break out a window on the car. Even after breaking out the window Kendall still was resisting the officers and Deputy Keller deployed his Taser to gain compliance but Kendall continued to resist the officers. A fireman on scene assisted Lents and Keller and the three of them were able to get him out of the vehicle and into custody. While conducting a search of Kendall several pills were located in his pockets.

Kendall was transported to the Martin County Jail where he was offered a certified chemical test in which he tested .24% BrAC. He was placed under arrest and lodged at the Martin County Jail.

Further investigation into the pills revealed Kendall was in possession of Hydrocodone, a Schedule III controlled substance, Levetiracetam, a Legend drug, and Peroxetine, a Legend drug.
