Entry Description

STATEHOUSE – State Representative Hal Slager (R-Schererville) was happy to recognize Lake Central High School from Lake County for being selected as one of the 11 new cohort schools to participate in the Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program (AP-TIP).  The program implements Advanced Placement Programs in Indiana Public Schools, offering college-level courses work in math, science and English.

“I am proud to see Lake Central High School participating in the Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program. It is important to give students the tools and training needed to excel at a high, academic level early on in their education,” said Rep. Slager. This program is a wonderful opportunity for students in our community to be able to distinguish themselves in their pursuit of higher education opportunities.”

AP-TIP IN is a statewide math-science initiative pushing Hoosier student’s to excel academically at a more competitive and rigorous level of collegiate level academics in high school.  The program allows students to enter college with previously earned credits, as well as a monetary award for the courses in which they receive a 3, 4 or 5 qualifying score on AP exams.

Lake Central High School will be starting the AP-TIP program this upcoming 2013- 2014 school year. Students will be able to take the $100 per qualifying score and apply it to their future tuition.  Teachers will receive a $500 stipend to support their additional responsibilities in participating the AP programs and $100 per qualifying score achieved by students in their eligible AP classes.

“With college tuition rates on the rise, I am happy to see programs like AP-TIP help alleviate the financial burden of a post-secondary education, as well as preparing them with the tools to follow their aspirations,” said Rep. Slager.
