Students receive prestigious award at the Statehouse

STATEHOUSE – State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) congratulates Logan Kimbler and Brooke Wininger from Kokomo for receiving the 2013 Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarships today.

The award recognizes high school seniors for their outstanding leadership skills, high academic performance and participation in community service projects.

“Receiving these scholarships defines Logan and Brooke as the kind of student leaders who are wonderful examples of what hard work and dedication can achieve,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “I have no doubt they will distinguish themselves in whatever career paths they choose.”

Beginning annually in 2000, Comcast has reached out to high school guidance counselors and principals to recognize the brightest seniors as the nation’s “leaders and achievers.” The award recipients are nominated for their extensive involvement in their schools and participation in various service projects that positively impact their communities.

Since 2001, Comcast has awarded approximately $19 million in scholarship funds to more than 19,000 students across the nation. Kimbler and Wininger were two of 49 Hoosier students to receive the $1,000 award.

“These students have worked extremely hard, and this award highlights their dedication and academic success,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “I am proud of all the seniors who received awards today and wish them the best of luck.”

The award was presented by First Lady Karen Pence at the Indiana Statehouse.
