[r68] Student receives prestigious award at the Statehouse
Start Date: 4/15/2013 All Day
End Date: 4/15/2013
Entry Description

STATEHOUSE – State Representative Jud McMillin (R-Brookville) congratulates Lucas E. Watjubs from Dearborn County for receiving the 2013 Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship today. The award recognizes high school seniors for their outstanding leadership skills, high academic performance and participation in community service projects.

“I want to congratulate Lucas, who attends Lawrenceburg High, on receiving this award recognizing him as a student leader and as someone who gives back to his community,” said Rep. McMillin. “This scholarship is an excellent way to reward the hard work, academic achievement and selfless service of our student leaders.”

Beginning annually in 2000, Comcast reaches out to high school guidance counselors and principals to recognize the brightest seniors as the nation’s “leaders and achievers.” The award recipients were nominated for their extensive involvement in their schools and participation in various service projects that positively impact their communities.

Since 2001, Comcast has awarded approximately $19 million in scholarship funds to more than 19,000 students across the nation. Watjubs, who attends Lawrenceburg High School in Southeast Indiana, was one of 49 Hoosier students to receive the $1,000 award.

“Nowadays, students have a ton on their plate and to maintain good grades, lead in their schools and volunteer through community projects is a major accomplishment and deserves our highest praise,” said Rep. McMillin. “I am confident through Lucas’s continued hard work and determination, he will distinguish himself in whatever career path he chooses, and I wish him the best throughout all his endeavors.”

The award was presented by First Lady Karen Pence at the Indiana Statehouse.
