Student receives prestigious award at the Statehouse

STATEHOUSE – State Representative Jack Lutz (R-Anderson) congratulates Reema D. Patel from Daleville for receiving the 2013 Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship today. The award recognizes high school seniors for their outstanding leadership skills, high academic performance and participation in community service projects.

“I want to applaud Reema Patel on her outstanding achievement and exemplary leadership at Daleville High School. Her participation in service projects throughout our community is wonderful,” said Rep. Lutz.  “It is great to see student leaders being rewarded for their hard work, academic achievement and selfless service.”

Beginning annually in 2000, Comcast reaches out to high school guidance counselors and principals to recognize the brightest seniors as the nation’s “leaders and achievers.” The award recipients were nominated for their extensive involvement in their schools and participation in various service projects that positively impact their communities.

Since 2001, Comcast has awarded approximately $19 million in scholarship funds to more than 19,000 students across the nation. Patel, who attends Daleville High School in Daleville, Indiana, was one of 49 Hoosier students to receive the $1,000 award. Patel also received an additional $6,000 scholarship.

“It is impressive how dedicated and hardworking these student leaders are in order to maintain good grades and volunteer in various community projects throughout the year,” said Rep. Lutz. “I wish Reema the best of luck in her future aspirations, and I have no doubt she will continue succeed in her endeavors.”

The award was presented by First Lady Karen Pence at the Indiana Statehouse.
