[R56] Legislation regarding elections passes Senate
Start Date: 4/4/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 4/4/2013
Entry Description

STATEHOUSE — State Representative Dick Hamm (R-Richmond) authored legislation regarding write-in candidates, which passed the Indiana Senate on Thursday with a 47-1 vote.

House Bill (HB) 1112 states that there may only be one eligible candidate per political party in a given general election.

“This bill protects the voters, party members and candidates,” said Rep. Hamm. “It ensures that when someone chooses a candidate in a primary and that candidate wins, they will be the only member of that party eligible for the position.”

An amendment added in the Senate allows the Indiana Election Commission or a county election board to impose a civil penalty up to $500 for a violation.

HB 1112 will now return to the House.
