Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann Awards a

$30,000 Planning Grant to the Town of North Salem

Indianapolis – Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann has awarded a $40,000 planning grant to the town of North Salem for a water utility planning study through the state’s Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

“Improving infrastructure is one way communities can attract new business,” said Lt. Governor Ellspermann.  “The town of North Salem has taken an important step on the path to economic growth, and we are pleased to support the grant request.”

The planning grant for the town of North Salem will be used to identify deficiencies and determine how to make necessary corrections to bring the water utility into full compliance with state and federal water regulations.  Evaluation of the utility will include water wells and pumps, a water treatment plant, water tower, and water distribution system.

The funding comes from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which has proven to be an effective tool for community-based planning and research initiatives. The CDBG program is administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
