[ISP] Ohio Man Dies in Grant County Crash
Start Date: 4/5/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 4/5/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description
Grant County – Today, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on I-69 near the 268 mile marker, in which a Findlay, OH, man died.

The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Weston Shanks revealed that Raad Odesho, 33, Sterling Heights, MI, was driving a 2003 Freightliner semi-tractor, pulling a box trailer, northbound on I-69 near the 268 mile marker. Odesho was slowing down for heavy traffic congestion caused by a lane restriction in an upcoming work zone. Odesho allegedly activated the hazard lights on the box trailer as the semi-tractor was slowing down; despite the warning, for an undetermined reason the box trailer was rear-ended by a 2003 Ford Escape. The Ford was driven by Alan Stephan, 34, Findlay, OH.

Stephan was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Grant County Coroner Chris Butche. Stephan was wearing a seat belt, but the impact of the crash was too severe for the restraint to save his life. Odesho, who was also properly restrained with a seat belt, was not injured.

This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.

Odesho was hauling auto parts for Cimaron Express based in Genoa, OH. He was traveling from Shelbyville, IN to Sterling Heights, MI. The trailer was rendered inoperable because of crash damage, but none of the load was lost.

Trooper Shanks was assisted at the crash scene by ISP Sergeant Detective Rob Ricks, Senior Trooper Randy McPike, Master Motor Carrier Inspector Darryl Brane, the Washington Township Fire Department, the Warren Township Fire Department, Marion General EMS, and Grant County EMA.
