Connie Lawson credits bank with “building a stronger community”

Franklin, Ind. (March 4, 2016) – Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson traveled to Franklin, Ind., on March 4 to award Mutual Savings Bank with the Century Certificate for its 125 years of providing commercial and personal banking services to the people and businesses of Johnson County.

“Mutual Savings Bank has been here since 1890 because its community members wanted a strong local community bank that would invest in local homes, jobs and quality of life,” Lawson said. “Today, Mutual is as engaged as ever, serving businesses and individuals and building an even stronger community.”

For more than a century, Mutual – headquartered in Franklin – has played an important role in nearly every major investment and community initiative in central and southern Johnson County. It has financed thousands of homes, cut hundreds of ribbons on new businesses and created good-paying jobs. Through good times and tough times, Mutual has consistently stood by its community.

Board members, clients and community supporters turned out for the event at Mutual’s main office at 80 E. Jefferson Street in Franklin. Lawson met with the bank’s staff, directors and community members and praised Mutual Savings Bank for its valuable assistance in helping individuals and businesses make wise money decisions and fulfill their dreams.

“Institutions like Mutual Savings Bank are crucial to communities throughout Indiana. They provide the financial tools and resources needed to make our cities and towns a better place to live, work and play,” said Franklin Mayor Joe McGuinness. “I am pleased to give Mutual Savings Bank this certificate today and hope that it continues to serve its customers and their communities for another 100 years and beyond,” said Lawson.

“We are honored to be recognized by Secretary Lawson, who is a champion of financial literacy in this state,” said Robert Heuchan, Mutual’s president and CEO. “Mutual and its customers have a mutual interest – our community – and together, we will continue to create good jobs, safe homes, great schools and a strong future for this generation and the next. The feeling is, and always has been, Mutual.”

Mutual has five branches in Franklin, Nineveh and Trafalgar. The bank makes its decisions locally and quickly and offers its customers the financial tools, banking technology, people and resources to achieve their goals.
