Overnight I-70 Pavement Patching in Wayne County

Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan to temporarily restrict Interstate 70 traffic lanes this week during overnight hours for asphalt pavement patching.

Beginning Wednesday, March 30 at 9 p.m., crews will restrict one lane of I-70 at various locations on eastbound and westbound I-70 between State Road 1 Exit 137 and Centerville Road Exit 145.  The alternating lane restrictions are expected to resume each night for approximately one month and end each morning before 6 a.m.

Additional weeknight lane restrictions for asphalt patching and weekend lane restrictions for concrete patching will be scheduled in the near future before a new asphalt surface is paved this summer.

Milestone Contractors is resuming a $9.5 million construction project, which will make pavement repairs, install subgrade drainage and resurface the 8-mile stretch of interstate before the end of this summer.

Milestone was also awarded two contracts totaling $9.4 million to make repairs and pave a new asphalt surface on U.S. 40 between 11th Street and I-70 on Richmond’s east side and on I-70 between US 27/Chester Boulevard (Exit 151) and the Ohio state line.  Both of these projects are also expected to be complete this summer.

Specific details about work schedules and traffic restrictions will be announced in advance.  Subscribe to receive future text or email bulletins about INDOT projects in Wayne County athttps://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/INDOT/subscriber/new?topic_id=INDOT_19.

Tips for driving safely in work zones

  • Stay alert and minimize distractions: Don’t text, talk or adjust controls.
  • Expect the unexpected: Normal speed limits may be reduced, traffic lanes may be changed, and workers may be nearby.
  • Slow down: Speeding is the major cause of work zone crashes.
  • Don’t tailgate: The most common work zone crash is the rear-end collision.
  • Pay attention to signs: Warning signs help keep you and other drivers safe.
  • Schedule enough time to drive safely: Expect delays and leave early.
