Entry Description
Chain O’ Lakes State Park is hosting an Aldo Leopold bench-building workshop on May 4 as part of the annual Welcome Back Weekend.
The workshop starts at 2 p.m. A fee of $70 per bench kit is required. Each kit includes an engraved bench backrest. Participants can choose from five different messages or pay additionally for a custom message.
The famous conservationist’s simple, sturdy bench design reflects Leopold’s ideals of living lightly on the land and connecting with nature. The workshop provides an opportunity to own one of these popular, comfortable benches, which can be seen throughout the park.
Park staff will help participants assemble their benches, which are made of treated pine and have a 46-inch seat board.
To reserve a kit, register by April 7 by emailing chaininterp@dnr.IN.gov or calling the park office at (260) 636-2654.
