INDIANAPOLIS— ON WEDNESDAY THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND PROVIDER SERVICES APPROVED HOUSE BILL (HB) 1483, A MEASURE TO REQUIRE RECIPIENTS OF TEMPORARY STATE ASSISTANCE TO SUBMIT TO DRUG TESTING. STATE SENATOR JEAN BREAUX, A DEMOCRAT FROM INDIANAPOLIS, SAID SHE HAS CONCERNS ABOUT THE COST, THE CONSTITUTIONALITY AND THE MISCHARACTERIZATION OF THE WORKING POOR WITHIN THE PROPOSAL.

HB 1483 PASSED OUT OF THE COMMITTEE BY A VOTE OF 9-3 AND IS EXPECTED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE FULL SENATE NEXT WEEK.
