[ISP] Multivehicle Crash in Tippecanoe County; Two People Hospitalized
Start Date: 3/25/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 3/25/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 6:26 p.m. on I-65 southbound near the 182 mile marker (four miles north of the State Road 43 exit at the 178 mm), the Indiana State Police at Lafayette Post responded to a semi/car crash that sent two people to local hospitals.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Weslee Ennis has revealed that a red 2013 Kenworth tractor pulling a fuel tanker owned by Pilot Travel Center was pulling over to the emergency lane of I-65. The driver, Steven G. Glotzbach, 52 years old from Fowler, IN was pulling off the roadway because he had been involved in a minor property damage crash with a red Ford Explorer driven by Danielle S. Lawson, 22 years old from Gary, IN. Both vehicles had slowed for another crash that had occurred in front of them when the Ford lost control and hit the tanker causing minor damage.

A gray 2012 Subaru with two passengers were southbound when the driver lost control, skidded sideways and ran into the Kenworth with the driver’s door impacting the rear of the tanker. The Subaru then ricocheted off the semi and came to rest in the ditch. Both the driver and passenger were transported from the scene with life threatening injuries. They were taken to both Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital and IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. Their conditions are not known at this time. The interstate was down to one lane for about two hours while rescue vehicles cared for the injured and cleaned up the crash.

Trooper Ennis was assisted at the scene by Troopers Kent Wainscott and Stephen Grayson. Updates on the conditions of the injured will be forth coming. It is unknown at this time if seatbelts were in use at the time of the crash. The investigation is continuing.
