Entry Description INDIANAPOLIS—The House of Representatives recently approved a proposal from State Senator Frank Mrvan (D-Hammond) to allow veterans with previous medical training to become certified as emergency medical providers.
“Improving jobs for veterans is a top priority for our caucus this session,” Sen Mrvan said. “This bill is a great achievement toward decreasing the number of unemployed veterans in Indiana and improving job opportunities for those who have sacrificed and served our country.”
Senate Bill (SB) 290 has been an important agenda item for the Indiana Senate Democrats. The measure would give the Indiana Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Commission the ability to issue licenses to military service applicants who have prior training in medical service fields and pass testing requirements.
In addition, veterans who need to complete additional training would be issued temporary licenses by the commission.
After unanimously passing out of the House of Representatives by a vote of 95-0, SB 290 now moves to the governor for final consideration.
Sen. Mrvan represents Indiana Senate District 1 which includes portions of Lake County. District 1 communities include Hammond, Munster, Highland, Dyer, Schererville and Griffith as well as two precincts in Crown Point. For more information on Sen.
