Entry Description
Indianapolis, IN- Lieutenant Jon Smithers, Commander of the Indianapolis State Police Post, would like to remind the public that due to the strong possibility of inclement weather arriving in the Indianapolis District this afternoon, abandoned vehicles left on the interstate system will be towed.
“Abandoned vehicles on the interstate system during snow/ice conditions present a safety hazard for the motoring public and the INDOT snow plow drivers” stated Smithers. “Towing the abandoned vehicles removes an obstacle that the motoring public could crash into and an obstacle that a snow plow driver has to work around during the inclement weather.”
Trooper’s that normally begin their shift at 6:00 a.m. have been notified to report to duty two hours earlier tomorrow due to the weather forecast. Other shifts will be evaluated and adjusted accordingly.
For Indiana road conditions call 1- 800-261-7623, or visit the Indiana Department of Transportation website at www.trafficwise.in.gov. Please do not call dispatch centers for road conditions. Telecommunications operators will be extremely busy dispatching equipment and personnel to motorists requiring emergency assistance. |
