Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (March 4, 2013) – Today, the Indiana Senate
unanimously approved three resolutions by State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville)
to memorialize fallen Southwest Indiana law enforcement officers who lost their
lives in the line of duty.
Senate Concurrent Resolutions 10,
11
and 12
urge the Indiana Department of Transportation to rename sections of I-69 and
Interstate-64 for Officer Michael E. Deno, Trooper William J. "Joe"
Trees and Sgt. John E. Hatfull, respectively.
“I’m extremely pleased the full
Senate supports me in asking the Department of Transportation to honor these
Southwest Indiana officers,” Tomes said. “This is a simple, yet important, way
for us to acknowledge the sacrifices they made to keep Indiana safe.”
Family members of Officer Deno,
Trooper Trees and Sgt. Hatfull attended the Senate hearing on the resolutions.
“These officers epitomized all of
the best qualities we see in public servants,” Tomes said. “Our state is a
better place because of people like them.”
The resolutions will now move to
the House of Representatives for consideration.
