Entry Description
This four (4) week course is designed for police departments with established evidence technicians or those creating a designated crime scene technician. The course is a comprehensive, integrated forensic crime scene investigation course. The student will be instructed on crime scene management, evidence collection and documentation, legal aspects of physical evidence and a multitude of other forensic disciplines such as blood spatter, firearms, autopsy protocol, latent development, photography, videography, entomology, toolmark and shoeprint casting. The course emphasizes hands-on as well as written examinations to determine skill and competency levels. This class will be offered only once per year.
The course criteria for enrollment requires the candidate to be a certified full time law enforcement officer or a full time civilian employee assigned as a full time crime scene technician by a police department. A letter from the department head attesting to the candidate's utilization as a crime scene investigator must be on file with the Academy at the time of registration. Because the demand is high and space is at a premium, consideration for entry to this school is closely monitored. We ask that enrollment be limited to one per department. Additionally, if your department has had an officer go through the course, enrollment of another officer must be justified. Every attempt will be made to accommodate your needs, but the goal of this program is to facilitate those areas of the state in need of trained criminalists.
ILEA Cost: $1,470.00 Residents/$830.00 Commuters
The following equipment must be provided by the student.
