Entry Description STATEHOUSE (Feb. 15, 2013) — State Sen. Allen Paul (R-Richmond) wants to inform constituents about electronic and hardcopy options for filing state and federal income taxes.
In 2011, officials at the Indiana Department of Revenue announced that tax booklets would no longer be mailed as a cost-saving measure.
Nearly two-thirds of Indiana residents file their Indiana income taxes online, which saves taxpayers an estimated $200,000 in mailing costs. Hoosiers who made an adjusted gross income of $57,000 or less during 2012 can learn about filing their state and federal taxes for free online by visiting www.in.gov/dor/4741.htm.
“With the shift to online filing, Indiana is eliminating waste by not mailing booklets to taxpayers who do not use them,” Paul said. “However, filing hardcopy forms is still an option. If taxpayers in my district are unable to obtain a booklet online or at their local public library, they should contact my office and I will mail the forms to them.”
For those constituents wanting to request hardcopy tax forms, they can call toll-free 800-382-9467 or write to Paul’s office at:
