Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 26, 2013) —State Sen. John Waterman’s (R-Shelburn) bill to prohibit the enforcement of foreign law in Indiana passed the Senate today by a vote of 45-5.
Waterman said Senate Bill 460 would ensure foreign laws are not enforced in Indiana if the enforcement would violate a right granted by the Constitution of the State of Indiana or the U.S. Constitution.
“This legislation will safeguard our constitutional rights and liberties from foreign influence,” Waterman said. “In some instances, foreign law is being considered in court cases across this state and country. We must make absolutely sure that Indiana and U.S. laws are upheld first and foremost, especially if those foreign laws contradict the values most important to us as citizens.”
SB 460 now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
