Start Date: 2/22/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 2/22/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

White County-Today at approximately 2:17 p.m, the Indiana State Police at Lafayette were advised of a three vehicle crash on I-65 southbound near the 189 mile marker (that is approximately five miles west of Brookston, IN) that had shut down the interstate at that location.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Darrick Scott and Probationary Trooper Aaron Allen has revealed that on I-65 southbound near the 189 mm traffic had slowed due to cleanup from an earlier crash of a semi in the median. At the time, both lanes were opened but traffic had slowed through the area. A blue and white 2009 International Brinks truck driven by Earl C. Hall, 60 years old from Beech Grove, IN had slowed due to the traffic. A white 2003 International semi leased from One Source Rental from Lafayette. IN was driven by Kirk A. Long, 37 years old from Frankfort, IN. He was pulling a flatbed trailer with construction equipment. Long had slowed behind the Brinks truck due to traffic congestion. Long looked into his rear view mirror and saw an orange 2013 Freightliner was not slowing down. The Freightliner owned by Schneider Trucking was hauling a box trailer full of auto parts.

The Freightliner hit the rear trailer of the International semi which in turn was pushed into the rear of the Brinks truck. The driver of the Freightliner was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the International, Kirk A. Long was not injured. The driver of the Brinks Truck, Earl C. Hall and a passenger, Edvardo A. Ruiz 37 years old from the Indianapolis area were transported to Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, IN with non-live threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing.

The identity of the deceased driver of the Schneider Freightliner was Michael Douglas Foster, 41 years old from Edgewater, FL. Foster was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. His family has been notified.
