Entry Description STATEHOUSE –State Representative Bill Davis (R-Portland) recognized the 2012 Jay County High School Cheerleading team at the Statehouse on Monday for their win at the 2012 Indiana State Fair cheerleading contest in House Resolution 18.
“These young ladies are talented students on the field, on the court and in the classroom,” said Rep. Davis. “It’s not easy to be a student-athlete, and this group has constantly exceeded expectations. They are real role models for our community, and I’m pleased that the General Assembly could recognize them for their efforts.”
The cheerleading team has participated in the Indiana State Fair cheerleading contest every year since 1975 when Jay County High School opened. Since then the team has placed in the top four 28 times, achieved second place ten times and has won the competition seven times.
The 24 members of the squad were accompanied to the Statehouse by head coach Mindy Weaver, who is also a physics teacher at the high school and has coached the team for 28 years. In addition to their involvement on the cheerleading team, many members of the squad participate in various other school sports and activities.
