[FSSA] Little Angels Reach Agreement to Keep Child Care Open

Entry Description
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s (FSSA) Bureau of Child Care (BCC) today entered into an agreement with Little Angels Daycare and Preschool of Greenwood, Indiana. The agreement requires Little Angels to implement immediate improvements to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children in their care while allowing the child care to continue providing a vital service to families who need care for their children.

In addition to taking immediate safety precautions and implementing quality improvements, Little Angels, a registered day care ministry, has agreed to become a fully-licensed child care by August 13, 2013. Licensed child cares must adhere to more stringent regulations than ministries, such as requiring an appropriate number of adults for children in care, active supervision of children and teacher training, among other items.

During an inspection of Little Angels in late January, BCC’s inspector determined that an individual with a known substantiation for sexual abuse had been present in the day care several times over the past nine months in spite of Little Angels’ agreement in April, 2012, to bar the individual from the ministry day care. This discovery resulted in the BCC terminating Little Angels’ registration on January 31, 2013. FSSA allowed the day care to remain open until close of business on February 14, 2013, to allow parents of children enrolled in the day care time to make other arrangements. Today’s agreement will allow for uninterrupted service to families, providing Little Angels meets the terms of the agreement.
