Traffic Switch scheduled on Clark Memorial Bridge
Steel and sidewalk repairs move to the northbound lanes
Louisville, KY (February 11, 2013) – Contract crews have been busy over the last month repairing the steel and sidewalks on the Indiana approach to the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge over the Ohio River. The southbound lanes have been closed since mid-January to accommodate this work. The traffic pattern is scheduled to switch tomorrow, Tuesday, February 12, as construction moves to the northbound lanes of the bridge.
Crews will begin changing the pavement striping and moving the barrier walls around 8:00 a.m. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction utilizing the southbound lanes of the bridge. The northbound lanes of the bridge near the Indiana shore will be closed 24 hours a day for the next 30 days while crews replace handrails & sidewalks and repair bridge expansion joints.
Approximately 15,000 vehicles cross this bridge each day.
The speed limit in the work zone is reduced to 25 MPH for the duration of the project. The project is signed as a double fine work zone.
Hall Contracting of Louisville was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $1.07 million. Construction is scheduled for completion by April 15, 2013.
The painting of the steel on the Indiana approach will be performed under separate contract this summer. Lane closures on the bridge will not be needed to perform this work, but some sidewalk closures may be necessary.
Actual starting date is subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
