Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 6, 2013) – State Sen. Jim Smith (R-Charlestown) recently welcomed the following local students to the Statehouse, where they served as Senate pages:
• Taylor Glover, from Charlestown, attends Charlestown Middle School.
• Ashley Bacon, from Lexington, attends Scottsburg New Tech High School.
Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the chamber floor and interacting with their state senators.
“The Senate page program is a chance for students to experience their state government at work,” Smith said. “It’s a great opportunity for young Hoosiers interested in politics or government to see how laws that impact their communities are made.”
Students in grades six through 12 can participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 4.
To learn how you can register your student to serve as a senate page, visit www.in.gov/senatepageprogram.
