[ISP] Morgan Co. Troopers Stay Connected with Community
Start Date: 12/16/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 12/17/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

In an effort to stay connected with local citizens, schools, and agencies the Indiana State Police Troopers assigned to Morgan County have worked numerous initiatives to achieve this goal. Two major steps taken by local troopers are more involvement in the school systems and particular focus on patrols on rural and county roads.

Since October, Morgan County Troopers have conducted over 50 visits to local schools. These visits include every school district (Martinsville, Monroe-Gregg, Mooresville, and Eminence) in the county. A heavy emphasis has been placed on visiting the rural schools outside of the cities. In addition, troopers have attended numerous school sporting events and participated in several school safety drills. Troopers have also conducted school zone traffic patrols and have followed school buses to watch for and enforce stop-arm violations. The purpose of this school involvement is to help ensure the safety of the children and school staff, as well as to foster relationships that are mutually beneficial to all.

Morgan County Troopers have also made a concerted effort to get out in the rural areas and patrol county roads. In October alone, troopers enforced several violations on county roads included speeding, reckless driving, restraint violations, and speed contests (drag racing). Many of these patrols have been in response to citizen complaints of driving behavior on certain roads. In many instances, the exact nature of the complaint was identified and enforcement action was taken. ISP is utilizing both marked and unmarked vehicles as well as a high performance Mustang to conduct these patrols.

The Indiana State Police want to emphasize our desire to stay connected with our communities. Hoosiers should feel free to contact ISP if you have specific problems or concerns in your county. The phone number to the Bloomington Post is 1-800-423-1286.
