[ISP] 2 Troopers from Fort Wayne Retire After 34 Years

Fort Wayne, IN-An Indiana State Police Master Trooper and a Detective from the Criminal Investigation Division, both assigned to the Fort Wayne Post and both of whom who have dedicated the last 34 years of their lives to the service of the citizens of the State of Indiana, recently announced their retirement from the Department.

• Master Trooper James A. Sheffield, 57 is a 1975 graduate of Yorktown High School in Delaware County. After high school, Sheffield served as a Military Policeman in the United States Air Force for four years and was a member of the National Guard for eight years. He attended Rollins Community College in Melbourne, Florida before being accepted into the 38th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. On December 14, 1979, Sheffield and 61 of his classmates were appointed to the Department and he was assigned as a Trooper to the Ligonier Post where he patrolled Steuben County.

After the closing of the Ligonier Post in 1982, Sheffield continued his duties at the Fort Wayne Post, where he patrolled in LaGrange County. During his career, he has served as a crash re-constructionist, a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, criminal interdiction patrol and Area II Drug Enforcement Section. He and his wife Marolyn reside in LaGrange and have six adult children and ten grandchildren.

• Detective Daniel E. Clawson, 62 is a 1970 graduate of Bethel High School in Tipp City, Ohio. After high school, Clawson served in the United States Army for two years which included a one year tour of duty in Vietnam. He then served as a Deputy for the Miami County (Ohio) Sheriff Department before being accepted into the 38th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. On December 14, 1979, Clawson and 61 of his classmates were appointed to the Department and he was assigned as a Trooper to the Ligonier Post where he patrolled Steuben County.

After the closing of the Ligonier Post in 1982, Clawson continued his duties at the Fort Wayne Post, where he served as a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division. During his career, he has been a technical crash investigator, a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, a speed timing instructor and has attended numerous investigative schools. Clawson and his wife Evelyn reside in Angola and have three adult children, Matthew (35), Daniel (37), Jennifer (42), and two grandchildren, Vincent (10) and Rylee (8).
