Entry Description
Falls of the Ohio State Park is offering a slate of educational programs this winter and spring aimed at training community members to volunteer at the park.

The classes are part of the park’s Naturalist at Heart program, now in its 11th year.

Volunteer interests are matched with the needs of the park and its visitors.
New participants may attend orientation either Jan. 8, from 1 to 2 p.m., or Jan. 11, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Those unable to attend on either date can schedule an individual orientation.

Participants will be offered free, introductory classes on the natural and cultural history of Falls of the Ohio State Park. Lessons cover geology, biology, archaeology, history, interpretation and more. Certification as a Naturalist at Heart is reached after 40 hours of lessons and 50 hours of volunteering at the park.

Advancement in the program leads to Level II or Level III certification.

Most classes last two to three hours. Speakers include park staff and invited experts. Introductory classes (Level I) are offered twice: Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.

Except as noted with asterisk, classes also are available to the general public not interested in becoming a volunteer. For those, the classes are included with Interpretive Center admission and the $2 per vehicle parking fee. Admission to the Interpretive Center costs $2 for ages 2-18 or $5 for ages 19 and older.

The Level I class schedule is:
