[ISP] Mishawaka Man Arrested on Drug Charges in Miami County
Start Date: 12/4/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 12/4/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description
Peru – Yesterday evening, a traffic stop by Indiana State Trooper Daniel Prus led to the arrest of Jesse J. Perkins, 30, Mishawaka, IN. Perkins was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail to felony charges for possession of heroin, possession of a schedule II narcotic, and possession of a hypodermic needle. He also faces a misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana under 30 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yesterday evening at approximately 4:27 p.m., Indiana State Trooper Daniel Prus initiated a traffic stop on a Cadillac which was traveling on U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 400 North. Prus stopped the Cadillac because the driver, identified as Perkins, allegedly drove the Cadillac off the road and continued traveling on the shoulder of U.S 31. Prus had been observing for the Cadillac because the Miami County Central Dispatch Center received calls reporting it as exceeding the posted 60 miles per hour speed limit and allegedly swerving from lane to lane.

During the course of the traffic stop, Prus noticed indicators that criminal activity might be afoot and deployed his narcotics detecting police dog, Zeke, to conduct a free air sniff around the Cadillac. Zeke gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the Cadillac officers allegedly found marijuana, heroin, prescription pills, a hypodermic needle, and drug paraphernalia.

Trooper Prus was assisted with the traffic stop by Trooper Luke Bowyer, Trooper Michael Biggs, and Trooper Mike Lorona.

Citizens are encouraged to call their local law enforcement agencies with any information about the possession, distribution, or manufacturing of illegal narcotics. Information can also be reported anonymously by calling the Indiana State Police Marijuana Tip Line at 1-888-873-1694.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
