[SUPREME] Lee Christie elected Judicial Nominating Commission district two representative

Lee Christie has been elected to serve as the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission district two representative. Mr. Christie was elected by attorneys to fill the vacancy that will occur Dec. 31st when attorney William Winingham's term expires.

District 2 is made up of Adams, Blackford, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Delaware, Grant, Hamilton, Howard, Huntington, Jay, Madison, Marion, Miami, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Wabash, Wells and White Counties. More than seven thousand ballots were sent to attorneys eligible to vote in district two. The Clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court collected the ballots and certified Lee Christie garnered 1435 votes and Jan Carroll garnered 1159 votes.

Mr. Christie is a partner at Cline Farrell Christie & Lee. Christie is a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, where he attended Arlington High School, Indiana University and Indiana University McKinney School of Law. Christie has been a practicing trial attorney for 32 years.

The Commission is made up of seven members, three are appointed by the Governor and three are elected by attorneys. The Chief Justice of Indiana serves as the Commission Chairperson. The three current appointed members are Molly Kitchell, Jean Northenor and Tom Rose. The three attorney elected members are John Ulmer, Stephen Williams and William Winingham (who is being replaced by Mr. Christie).

The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission is established by the Indiana Constitution and staffed by the Division of State Court Administration. The Commission recruits and interviews applicants to fill vacancies on the appellate courts. The Commission submits candidates to the Governor for appointment. Additionally, the Commission selects the Chief Justice of Indiana. Finally, the Commission certifies former Indiana judges as Senior Judges to serve in Indiana’s courts.
