[SUPREME] Robing Ceremony for Justice Rush December 28th
Start Date: 12/19/2012 All Day
End Date: 12/19/2012
Entry Description
The robing ceremony and oath administration for Loretta Rush as Indiana’s 108th Justice will take place on December 28th. Chief Justice Brent E. Dickson announced the date and invited the public to watch a webcast of the ceremony at courts.in.gov.

Friday, December 28th
10:00 a.m. EST
Supreme Court Courtroom
State House, 3rd Floor

The one-hour ceremony will include remarks from Governor Mitch Daniels, former Supreme Court Justice Myra Selby, Allen County Superior Court Judge Charles Pratt and Dr. Will Miller. Governor Daniels will administer the oath and Justice Rush’s official courtroom photograph will be unveiled. A photo gallery of previous swearing-in ceremonies is online http://www.flickr.com/photos/incourts/sets/72157626091235873/.

In September, Governor Daniels named Judge Loretta Rush to succeed Justice Frank Sullivan, Jr., who stepped down from the bench earlier this year. After her appointment, Rush continued her work as Judge of Tippecanoe Superior Court #3 until November. Chief Justice Dickson administered a private oath on November 7th so that Rush could officially begin her work as an Indiana Justice prior to the December 28th ceremony.

Media interested in attending must contact Supreme Court Public Information Officer, Kathryn Dolan, at kathryn.dolan@courts.in.gov by noon on Wednesday, December 26th to learn pool feed details and arrange seating.

The Indiana Supreme Court is the state’s highest court.  It has five members, operates year-round and resolves disputes for civil and criminal cases. Oral arguments are open to the public and opinions are posted online. The Court also works to ensure justice is administered fairly across the state.
