[IEDC] Light Fixture Manufacturer Grows in Elkhart County
Start Date: 12/19/2012 All Day
End Date: 12/19/2012
Entry Description

ELKHART, Ind. (Dec. 19, 2012) – Vista Manufacturing, Inc., an electronic lighting manufacturer, announced plans today to expand its operations here, creating up to 15 new jobs by 2015.

The company, which manufactures light-emitting diodes (LED) and incandescent lights, will invest $3 million over a span of three years to build and equip a 34,000 square-foot facility at 53345 Columbia Drive in Elkhart. Currently operating out of two buildings in Elkhart, the expansion will consolidate Vista’s current manufacturing and distribution facilities into one building, which will be operational by next year.

“Vista is the latest company to choose Indiana as its centralized production location and that speaks volumes for the global attention our state’s business climate continues to receive,” said Dan Hasler, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

Vista, which currently has 20 full-time employees in Elkhart, plans to begin hiring additional associates for materials handling, production, administrative and engineering positions late next year.

“We are extremely pleased with the way the state of Indiana and Elkhart County have stepped up in this time of growth for Vista,” said Tod Tieszen, president of Vista. “The state’s pro-business attitude made the decision for us to expand here an easy one, and we look forward to another successful 30 years.”

Founded in 1979 in Wichita, Kan., Vista relocated to Elkhart shortly after to be closer to its largest customer, CBA, a manufacturer of citizens band radio antennas. Today, Vista is the parent company of Vista Lighting Worldwide and manufactures and supplies more than 10 million LED and incandescent bulbs and electrical components per year for 16 different industries, including the aviation, recreational vehicle, emergency vehicle, movie theater, appliance and utility sectors.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Vista Building, LLC, Vista Manufacturing, Inc. and Vista Lighting Worldwide, Inc. up to $110,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. Elkhart County will consider additional property tax abatement at the request of the Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County.

“We are thrilled that Vista has chosen to contribute to the continued economic growth and vitality of Elkhart County,” said Dave Foutz, a member of the Elkhart County Council. “By expanding its manufacturing facilities and increasing its labor force to produce the company’s unique array of lighting products, Vista is adding to the manufacturing diversity of the area.”

Vista is the second company this week to announce plans to grow its operations in Elkhart. On Monday, musical instrument manufacturer Conn-Selmer announced its plans to move its percussion instrument facility from LaGrange, Ill. to its woodwind manufacturing facility in Elkhart, creating up to 23 new jobs.

About IEDC
Created by Governor Mitch Daniels in 2005 to replace the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12-member board chaired by Governor Daniels. Dan Hasler serves as the chief executive officer of the IEDC.

The IEDC oversees programs enacted by the General Assembly including tax credits, workforce training grants and public infrastructure assistance. All tax credits are performance-based. Therefore, companies must first invest in Indiana through job creation or capital investment before incentives are paid. A company who does not meet its full projections only receives a percentage of the incentives proportional to its actual investment. For more information about IEDC, visit
