Entry Description
The Cummins Inc., Columbus Midrange Engine Plant was welcomed as a new member of the Indiana Partners for Pollution Prevention (Partners) during the Partners’ quarterly meeting on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. The Cummins facility joins 65 other partners who incorporate pollution prevention into their products, services and processes.
The Partners organization is comprised of Indiana industries, businesses, nonprofit organizations and governmental entities that are interested in pollution prevention and the financial and environmental benefits pollution prevention projects can bring. Partners hold quarterly meetings and an annual conference and trade show, enabling members to exchange ideas, receive updates on regulations, and hear pollution prevention success stories.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) supports the Partners by providing recognition, promotional and networking opportunities. IDEM Assistant Commissioner Rick Bossingham said, “We are proud to include the Midrange Engine Plant as a new Partner. This Cummins facility will bring its unique perspective to the table and will improve the strength of the group, just like all of the other members.”
The Cummins Inc., Columbus Midrange Engine Plant produces the DCX 6.7 L 6 cylinder diesel engine for DaimlerChrysler and Freightliner. The operations performed at the plant include machining the block, assembling the engine, testing the engine and painting.
The Partners program is facilitated by IDEM’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Technical Assistance (OPPTA). OPPTA provides confidential assistance, funding for source reduction, pollution prevention and recycling initiatives to businesses, communities and schools. Additional information about the Indiana Partners for Pollution Prevention can be found at www.idem.IN.gov/4129.htm.
