Entry Description
WINTER STORM UPDATE, Dec. 27 at 1130

Much of Indiana is still dealing with the aftermath of a powerful winter storm that pushed through the state on Wednesday. Many roads are still snow covered and hazardous. Hoosiers should check local conditions and follow the travel directions of local authorities.

State EOC Staffing
The State of Indiana Emergency Operations Center has been operating with increased staffing since 7 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012. In the EOC now are: Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana State Police, Indiana National Guard, Indiana Department of Transportation, and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. The EOC will decrease staffing levels at noon, and will return to normal staffing to continue monitoring conditions around the state.

Response Personnel
Indiana Department of Transportation continues to plow interstates, U.S. highways and state routes with approximately 575 trucks.

Travel Advisory Map
Citizens are asked to carefully consider whether travel is necessary. Consult the Indiana Travel Advisory Map at While the storm has left Indiana, many roads and Interstate exit and on ramps, are still slick and hazardous. Hoosiers should plan accordingly and allow extra time to travel.

IDHS also recommends carrying blankets, extra water, a small shovel and other items which may be helpful if you find yourself in trouble on the road.

The rest area on I-65 between Exit 193 and Exit 201 is closed through Thursday.

Power Outages
There are currently 33 customers without power in the state:

South Central Indiana REMC – 17 customers
Duke Energy – 16 customers

If customers experience a power outage, they should report it to their electric utility by calling the company directly. While utility companies will be working overnight to repair any outages, storms of this size and magnitude often make it very difficult to restore power immediately.

If there's a power outage and you can’t stay in your home due to cold temperatures, call your local authorities to find the location of a shelter.
