Entry Description
INDOT Trucks Out Tonight
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Indianapolis Subdistrict will have trucks on highways through the night as it anticipates the first winter storm of the season.
At least 16 drivers from the day shift will remain on duty through the evening commute. If there is a break in the rain long enough for pavement to dry, the day shift drivers will work to apply a pre-treatment of brine to bridges and overpasses before snow arrives.
At least 46 night shift drivers are scheduled to hit the roads at 8 p.m. before bridge and pavement temperatures are expected to drop below 32 degrees. The night shift will monitor road conditions and apply deicing materials as needed through the night and Friday morning in order to keep highways as safe as possible.
The regular day shift will return at 8 a.m., and standard operating procedure is to continue 12-hour shifts until inclement weather subsides. Current forecasts indicate snow tapering off Friday morning, but strong winds are expected to continue through the day.
INDOT asks drivers to promote their own safety and that of others by reducing their speed according to road conditions and increasing the distance between themselves and other vehicles, especially INDOT’s yellow plow trucks.
Motorists should plan ahead for their Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes by staying updated on the latest weather and road conditions. Visit www.TrafficWise.IN.gov or dial toll-free 1-800-261-ROAD (7623) for updated Indiana travel information, including road conditions, road closures, construction information, crashes and other traffic alerts.
