Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2012) – Joined by his family and fellow state legislators at the Statehouse, Senator-elect Mike Crider (R-Greenfield) took the oath of office today to officially become the state senator representing District 28, which includes all of Hancock County and portions of Marion and Shelby counties.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Brent Dickson presided over the swearing-in ceremony and administered the oath of office in the Senate chamber, where lawmakers gathered for the General Assembly’s Organization Day.  This annual event ceremonially marks the first day of the legislative session, highlighted by the swearing-in of new members and the discussion of key state issues.

Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) said Crider’s unique background will make him a valuable leader for his district and the Indiana General Assembly.

“Crider’s experience, work ethic and passion for his community show his dedication to serving Hoosiers,” Long said.

In his first session in the Senate, Crider has been appointed as chairman of the Provider Services Subcommittee, a subgroup of the Senate Committee on Health and Provider Services. He will also serve as a member of the following committees:

•    Agriculture & Natural Resources
•    Homeland Security, Transportation & Veterans Affairs
•    Pensions & Labor
•    Public Safety Subcommittee
•    Utilities

Crider, 53, is a resident of Greenfield, and is one of 28 new lawmakers to join the Indiana General Assembly.  He fills the Senate seat vacated by the retirement of State Sen. Beverly Gard (R-Greenfield).

“I am excited for the opportunity to serve in the Senate,” Crider said. “Working with other state legislators to pass a balanced budget and improve our state’s jobs-friendly environment is my top priority at this time. Ensuring voices from our area are heard on these matters is of the utmost importance.”

Crider is a retired Indiana conservation officer and currently works with Hancock Regional Hospital as a security manager and disaster-preparedness coordinator.

Crider and his wife, Sherri, have two sons and three grandchildren. They are members of Park Chapel Christian Church in Greenfield.
