Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2012) — State Sen. Pat Miller (R-Indianapolis) joined fellow legislators today at the Statehouse for Organization Day — the ceremonial start of the 118th Indiana General Assembly’s budget session.
Organization Day is marked by the swearing in of newly-elected members of the General Assembly.
The 2013 session is a budget year, meaning lawmakers will draft a comprehensive proposal to fund state government services for the next two years. By law, the 2013 legislative session must be completed no later than April 29.
“In the upcoming months, my colleagues and I are committed to passing Indiana’s fifth-consecutive balanced budget while continuing to promote policies that support small business growth and job creation,” Miller said. “Hoosiers can be assured that I will work to keep taxes low, grow Indiana’s economy, continue education initiatives that strengthen our schools and tackle the rising prescription drug abuse in our state.”
Miller said Senate priorities for the 2013 session include:
· Continuing fiscal responsibility
· Improving education by promoting college-preparatory and vocational opportunities in our schools and working to ensure college is more affordable
· Building on Indiana’s low-tax, job-friendly environment
Additionally, Miller has been re-appointed as chair of the Senate Committee on Health & Provider Services and will serve as a member of the following committees in 2013 and 2014:
· Appropriations, which deals with the budget and expenditures
· Elections
· Civil Law
As the 2013 session gets under way, Miller encourages Senate District 32 residents to contact her with any questions or comments they may have. Miller can be reached via email at Senator.Miller@iga.in.gov or by phone at 317-232-9400.
