Entry Description

INDIANAPOLIS – Robert K. Robisch, J.D., Associate General Counsel for the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) was recently named the 2012 winner of the Legal Award of Merit by the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). Robisch is the 9th recipient of the award since its inception in 2004. The purpose of the award is to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the study and advancement of unemployment insurance law in the United States. Particularly, NASWA cited Robisch’s role in the development of unemployment tax regulations defining the rights and responsibilities of claimants and employees. Robisch has also played a significant role in developing training programs within the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law for administrative law judges specifically focused on unemployment insurance law. His experience with cases that have reached the Indiana Supreme Court and his mentorship of young attorneys were also cited as factors in receiving the award.

“I am extremely pleased Bob has been recognized on the national level for his hard work and diligence in building integrity in Indiana’s unemployment insurance system,” said Scott B. Sanders, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. “He has proved time and again to be an invaluable member of our staff and I am glad he is receiving the recognition he deserves for his performance.”

Sanders also noted NASWA reserves this award only for those who have made the highest commitment to the development, study and education of our nation’s unemployment laws.

The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) was founded in 1937, during the Great Depression. It is an organization of state administrators of unemployment insurance laws, employment services, training programs, employment statistics and labor market information dedicated to information exchange and advocacy of unemployment issues.
