Entry Description
The Indiana Department of Transportation will restrict Interstate 70 lanes—one single lane segment at a time—from Post Road to the Buck Creek bridge during overnight hours tonight through Sunday night. Reith Riley, the state’s contractor, plans to grind short sections of the pavement surface to improve smoothness.
INDOT advises motorists to drive with extra caution through the 4-mile I-70 active construction zone east of the city. Barrels and lighted message boards will direct traffic around individual worksites occurring at various locations in both eastbound and westbound travel lanes. Grinding operations are scheduled to begin at 9 o’clock each night and end at 6 a.m. the next day.
These lane closures will be short in distance; some will be short in duration. Once grinding at an individual location has been accomplished, the lane will reopen—and another lane segment will close for subsequent grinding.
Reith Riley’s diamond grinding operation is in advance of opening all lanes through the 9-mile-long $32.3 million Major Moves reconstruction/added travel lane project from Post to Mt. Comfort Road. Concrete paving has been completed. Sealing joints, grinding shoulder rumble strips and placing pavement markings remains to be done. INDOT officials anticipate normalizing the traffic pattern within two weeks—weather permitting. |
