State Road 46 Bridge Opening Today
The expedited repairs have been completed
CLAY COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces the State Road 46 (S.R. 46) Bridge over the Eel River is repaired and will open today Friday, November 2 by 7:00 p.m. George R. Harvey & Son, Inc. from Danville completed the expedited repairs. The bridge will be open to traffic however a weight limit of 19 tons is in place on this bridge.
Signs displaying “Weight Limit 19 Tons” are posted on both sides of the bridge and at the intersections of State Road 59 and S.R. 46, State Road 246 and S.R. 46, plus in Spencer at US 231 and S.R. 46.
Construction began during the first week of October. The bridge on S.R. 46 was closed July 31 after structural engineers retained by INDOT recommended closing the bridge after identifying more corrosion in the structural steel than was previously documented.
