Entry Description
CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation hopes to reopen U.S. 40 lanes at Pennville/Jacksonburg Roads—restricted to traffic for a $1.5 million reconstruction project that began in late June—this Friday afternoon.
Milestone, the state’s contractor, is placing sod, installing guardrail and painting pavement markings along the half mile section of rebuilt U.S. 40—and approximately 200 feet of county road approaches from the south and north—in advance of restoring all traffic lanes.
INDOT lowered the grade of the National Road by as much as four feet—correcting sight distance concerns that existed west of the intersection. Along with full-depth pavement replacement, the state added a center turn lane and modified the turning radii of corners at Pennville and Jacksonburg Roads, located three miles east of Cambridge City.
A new box culvert under U.S. 40 was also installed.
Motorists can expect to drive on an intermediate lift of asphalt until spring when the highway’s new surface will be placed. This work should be accomplished within a two-week period.
