Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2012) – Joined by his family and fellow state legislators at the Statehouse, Senator-elect Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) took the oath of office today to officially become the State Senator representing District 37, which includes all of Morgan County and portions of Putnam, Owen and Johnson counties.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Brent Dickson presided over the swearing-in ceremony and administered the oath of office in the Senate chamber, where lawmakers gathered for the General Assembly’s Organization Day. This annual event ceremonially marks the first day of the legislative session, highlighted by the swearing-in of new members and the discussion of key state issues.

Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) said Bray’s background will make him a valuable leader for his district and the Indiana General Assembly.
“Rodric’s experience practicing law along with his proven work ethic will greatly benefit the Senate,” Long said. “He’ll serve the constituents of Senate District 37 well, and I look forward to working with him on policy initiatives that will improve the lives of Hoosiers.”
In his first session in the Senate, Bray will serve as member of the following committees in 2013 and 2014:
  • Corrections & Criminal Law
  • Criminal Law Subcommittee
  • Health & Provider Services
  • Public Health Subcommittee
  • Local Government
  • Utilities
Bray, 43, is a resident of Martinsville, and is one of 28 new lawmakers to join the Indiana General Assembly.  He fills the Senate seat vacated by his father, State Sen. Richard Bray (R-Martinsville).

“As this budget year and 2013 legislative session kick off, I’m eager to get to work and ensure our state is doing all it can to promote small business growth and job creation. My top priority is to make sure residents in my district have their voices heard and opinions counted,” Bray said. “Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to watch my father serve this community with great passion and dedication. I’m honored to step up now and serve on behalf of Hoosiers in our area.”
Bray has practiced law for 18 years and currently serves as counsel for the Martinsville City Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.  He previously served as an attorney for the City of Martinsville.
Bray and his wife, Kelly, have two sons, Austin and Ethan.
