Entry Description STATEHOUSE (Nov. 16, 2012) — Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-Fort Wayne) Thursday appointed State Sen. Greg Walker (R-Columbus) as chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics for the 118th General Assembly. The 2013 legislative session will be Walker’s first time to lead this panel.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this committee in upholding the integrity of our state’s legislative process,” Walker said. “It’s vital that we as elected officials work to strengthen the faith and confidence of Hoosiers in their government.”
Walker said his committee works to ensure adherence to the Senate code of ethics to help lawmakers avoid conflicts of interests in public office and improve standards of public service.
Long said he’s confident Walker is the perfect fit as chairman.
“Senator Walker brings a unique professional and personal experience to the Senate that qualifies him to lead this committee,” Long said. “Our state legislature is very fortunate to have the opportunity to tap into his expertise, using it to make Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
The 2013 legislative session ceremonially begins with “Organization Day” on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Legislators will reconvene Jan. 7 and may work until April 29 to draft a two-year state budget and other new laws.
