Entry Description
New Pavement on I-465
Ends Ramp Restriction
From Southbound I-69
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors plan to restore normal traffic patterns tonight on westbound I-465 on the city’s northeast side.
Beginning at 9 p.m., crews will work to shift all westbound I-465 traffic lanes to the left and reopen the second traffic lane on the southbound I-69 ramp to westbound I-465. The far left lane of I-465 now has new pavement, and the far-right auxiliary lane will again be designated as an exit lane to Allisonville Road.
The operation will require alternating lane restrictions on westbound I-465 and the ramp from southbound I-69 to place new pavement markings and shift traffic one lane at a time. Westbound I-465 will have one lane restricted at 9 p.m., and two lanes will be restricted after 10 p.m.
Some various restrictions will be needed on Allisonville Road and the I-465 interchange ramps for short periods throughout the night, but all ramps will remain open. The second turn lane from westbound 86th Street to northbound Keystone Avenue—added before the bridge closure—is expected to return to its previous configuration. All lane restrictions are expected to end by 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Three westbound lanes of I-465 were temporarily shifted to the right between I-69 and Allisonville Road as contractors replaced uneven pavement in the left lane. In order to maintain three lanes of traffic on westbound I-465, the ramp from southbound I-69 to westbound I-465 was temporarily reduced to a single lane.
I-465 in both directions will have a 45 mph work zone speed limit in effect when signs are flashing during working hours. Drivers should reduce speeds on I-465 and the Allisonville Road ramps. Drivers should be alert for construction workers in the area, heavy trucks entering and exiting the roadway and Indiana State Police patrolling the work zone. |
