Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Nov. 15, 2012) — Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-Fort Wayne) today appointed State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) as chairman of the newly-created Senate Committee on Financial Institutions for the 118th General Assembly.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as chairman of the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions,” Holdman said. “Without a sound financial sector, Indiana’s economy cannot perform at its highest potential. Promoting legislation related to this idea has been one of my goals as a state senator, and I look forward to effectively accomplishing this work through my new appointment.”
Holdman said his committee will consider legislation to develop rules and regulations for financial services and ensure the integrity of the state’s financial sector. Long said he’s confident Holdman’s experience makes him the perfect fit as chairman.
“Senator Holdman brings a unique professional and personal experience to the Senate that qualifies him to lead his colleagues in related policy discussions,” Long said. “Our state legislature is very fortunate to have the opportunity to tap into his expertise, using it to make Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
In the past, Holdman served as a member of the Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee and as chairman of the Financial Institutions Subcommittee. Earlier this year, he was elected treasurer of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators, for which he previously served as chairman of the International Insurance Issues Committee.
The 2013 legislative session ceremonially kicks off with “Organization Day” on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Legislators will reconvene Jan. 7 and may work until April 29 to draft a two-year state budget and other new laws. |
