Entry Description

STATEHOUSE - State Representative Bill Davis (R-Portland) would like to congratulate Terry L. Hunsucker, a Winchester native, on being awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Mike Pence last week. The award is the highest honor the Governor of Indiana can bestow. It is presented to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state.

“Winchester has always been home to Terry,” said Rep. Davis. “Even when a job opportunity forced him to leave, he still made it a priority to continue to give back to the Winchester community.”

One of Terry’s most impressive projects includes an entrepreneurial mentoring program through Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Ball State University. It was so successful and received so much attention that Terry was asked to continue the program at Baylor and Southern Methodist Universities. He also established two scholarships to assist students with the cost of higher education- one through Ball State and one through Randolph Central School Corporation.

“I nominated Terry for this special honor because his heart and dedication have truly changed the course of Winchester forever,” said Rep. Davis. “Not only is he passionate about education, but he is also committed to economic growth. When the local cinema was facing closure, Terry wasted no time stepping in. He directed the efforts of local investors and was able to save the cinema. This is just one of many examples where Terry made a real, positive difference in the town that he loves. Despite all that he has done, Terry has never asked for recognition, and he never wanted a pat on the back. He simply wanted to help. His work deserves to be recognized though, and I could not be more honored to be a part of that.”

Terry’s leadership also helped establish the Randolph County Quilt Trail, which showcases the heritage of farm families in rural Randolph County, as well as June Fest, a festival hosted in downtown Winchester.
