Entry Description

Clay County-A joint investigation by Indiana State Police and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office has landed three men behind bars on multiple charges. The three men were arrested at their homes without incident Wednesday evening, October 23, 2013 and incarcerated in the Clay County Jail.

Arrested: Mark Shaffer, age 23, of Terre Haute, IN.
James Howard, age 22, Terre Haute, IN.
Joshua Johnson, age 25, Brazil, IN.

Charges: All three were charged with (1) count of Burglary C felony and (1) Trespassing, A Misdemeanor
Bond: Shaffer and Howard, $10,000; Johnson, $15,000

The case originated on October 19th, when Indiana State Police Detective Sam Stearley and Clay County Sheriff’s Detective Jerry Siddons received a tip about the three individuals allegedly possessing stolen property. Through their investigation, officers determined the three men were alleged to have burglarized a residence and barn on West County Road 1200 North Brazil. During the burglary, guns, and lawn/ power tools were taken. While serving a search warrant at the Johnson residence at 601 West Central Ave in Brazil, investigators were able to recover some of the County Road 1200 N burglary items as well as items they believe came from a previous burglary on State Road 340 West of Brazil. Investigators also received consent to search two eastern Vigo County residences and recovered burglary items believed to be connected to both burglaries. No additional suspects are being sought.

Anyone with information about these or any other burglaries possibly related to these individuals is urged to contact Detective Stearley at 765-653-4114 or Detective Siddons at 812-448-9048.

Assisting were Indiana Conservation Officers and the Brazil Police Department.
